India’s most decorated Asian Tour golfer, Gaganjeet Bhullar, will headline the country’s challenge at the 2026 International Series Japan, scheduled from April 2 to April 5 at the Caledonian Golf Club in Chiba. Bhullar arrives in strong form after a dominant run on the Indian Golf Premier League Tour, where he secured multiple victories across 2025 and early 2026. He will be joined by a mix of emerging talents and veteran champions, including Karandeep Kochhar, Jeev Milkha Singh, SSP Chawrasia and Jyoti Randhawa. Despite India’s strong presence in Asian golf, no Indian golfer has yet captured a title on the International Series circuit.

India’s Leading Golfer Returns to the Spotlight

India will field a formidable contingent at the upcoming International Series Japan, with veteran professional Gaganjeet Bhullar spearheading the challenge. Widely regarded as India’s most accomplished golfer on the Asian Tour, Bhullar has accumulated 11 Asian Tour titles, establishing himself as one of the region’s most consistent performers over the past decade.

The 37-year-old golfer enters the tournament with significant momentum. His recent performances on the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) Tour have been particularly impressive, where he secured three tournament victories during the 2025 season and added another triumph at the opening event of 2026. This sustained run of form has reinforced his status as a leading contender among Asian professionals heading into the Chiba tournament.

The International Series event will be staged from April 2 to April 5 at the prestigious Caledonian Golf Club, a venue known for its challenging layout and strategic design that often tests both precision and course management.

Blend of Experience and Emerging Talent

Bhullar will not be alone in carrying India’s hopes. The national contingent features a balanced mix of rising players and seasoned campaigners who have shaped Indian golf over the past two decades.

Among the notable entrants is Karandeep Kochhar, who recently secured victory on the Asian Development Tour in Egypt, signaling his growing stature on the international circuit. His win has positioned him as one of India’s emerging prospects capable of competing against a deeper global field.

India’s challenge will also draw on the experience of several decorated veterans:

  • Jeev Milkha Singh, a trailblazer of modern Indian golf and former Asian Tour Order of Merit champion.
  • SSP Chawrasia, a two-time winner of the Indian Open and a respected competitor known for his consistency.
  • Jyoti Randhawa, a three-time Indian Open champion with extensive experience on international tours.

In addition, Shaurya Bhattacharya will represent the new generation of Indian professionals. Bhattacharya enjoyed a strong domestic campaign on the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), though his appearance at the Indian Open earlier this year ended with a missed cut.

Another Indian professional, Ajeetesh Sandhu, has been listed as the second reserve for the tournament.

The Elusive International Series Breakthrough

Despite India’s growing influence on Asian golf circuits, no Indian golfer has yet secured a title on the International Series, a premium set of tournaments within the Asian Tour ecosystem. The series regularly attracts a strong international field, including players with experience on major global tours.

For Bhullar, the tournament presents an opportunity to end that drought. The Chandigarh-born golfer last tasted victory on the Asian Tour in Indonesia in late 2023, and a win in Japan would further cement his legacy as one of India’s most successful overseas performers.

Notably, several members of the Indian contingent—including Bhullar, Kochhar, Jeev Milkha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa and SSP Chawrasia—did not participate in the Indian Open held last month. Bhattacharya was the only player among them to compete in the national championship but failed to progress beyond the cut.

Strategic Importance for Indian Golf

The International Series events carry increasing significance in the global golf landscape. With substantial prize purses and strong international participation, they provide Asian professionals with opportunities to gain ranking points, sponsorship visibility and career momentum.

For India’s golfers, strong performances in Japan could help reinforce the country’s growing presence in the Asian golf ecosystem. With a blend of veteran leadership and emerging talent, the Indian lineup arrives in Chiba with both experience and ambition.

If Bhullar’s current form translates onto the fairways of the Caledonian Golf Club, India may finally see its long-awaited breakthrough on the International Series stage.
